Package Design Research & Test Lab. is a pioneering business entity, mainly engaged in providing Consultancy, Training and Testing for corrugated boxes.
The primary objective of the company is to provide consultancy for cost reduction, designing of corrugated box packaging and training for both corporate and individuals and testing of corrugated boxes.
Since April 2006, PDRTL is approved test lab of Walmart Global Sourcing in India for corrugated boxes. The company has successfully undertaken testing assignment for Walmart from China. Today, PDRTL has marked a formidable reputation in its domain, forming mutually-rewarding business alliances with top-tier names like IKEA, XEROX, Olivetti, Moserbaer, Vadilal, Amul Macho etc.
Management
PDRTL
owes its unprecedented market visibility and success to the foresight
and fortitude of Mr. Lalit Mohan Gupta. Mr. Gupta, a B.Sc. &
M.B.A., has more than 35 years of experience in various fields of
packaging with special reference to Corrugated Packaging.
Mr. Gupta is member of "Panel of Experts" of BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) responsible for finalizing specifications for Kraft Paper & Corrugated Boxes.
Mr.Gupta was also nominated for National Award
by Govt. of U.P. for excellence in R & D in small scale industry in
the year 2000. He has presented papers on various packaging seminars.
He is ISTA (International Safe Transit Association, a world renowned body on testing transport worthiness of packages) Certified Packaging Lab Professional.
He has also attended packaging symposiums in Shanghai China & Birmingham, UK.
Research Activities
In
line with its mission statement, PDRTL has been involved in various R
& D projects both for in house and on request from various
companies. Some of the areas of work include:
- Effect of high Cobb papers and use of Sodium Silicate on B.S. & ECT of corrugated boxes under hot and humid conditions.
- Determination of critical moisture level in corrugated boxes that may be acceptable without effecting ECT & B.S.
- Cause and remedy for powder type dust observed inside corrugated boxes and on outside surface also in a palletized load.

Consultancy
PDRTL undertakes consultancy projects related to corrugated box packaging in the following areas:
- Determining correct specifications required for a particular package / corrugated box.
- Reduce breakage of goods in transit.
- Cost reduction in existing packaging.
- On paper specs. required to meet desired specifications of ECT, FCT, B.S., Compression, Puncture, Bending Stiffness etc.
- Helping
manufacturers to design boxes and their inner fitments to pass
Vibration cum Drop Test in various protocols like ISTA 1A, 1B, 1C, 2A,
2B, 2C or 3A etc.
- Sourcing suitable requirement of colour, shade, finish in packaging.
- Or any other area where problem arises.
Some of the prominent consultancy work done.- Cost
reduction for corrugated boxes of Xerox Copiers by reducing no. of
plies from 7 to 5 for Xerox India Ltd. resulting in savings of 15%.
- Cost
reduction for a leading exporter for their lamp box by reducing no. of
plies from 5 to 3 in 2008 resulting in savings of 13%.
- Development of corrugated board pallets suiting 600 kgs and 800 kgs load in 2010.
- Cause identification and removal of dust formation during transit over and inside corrugated boxes in a palletized load.
- Redesigning of specification for Vjiay Solvex and Vadilal.
Packaging Solutions
We have developed and devised packaging solutions to various problems and requirements. To mention a few:- Corrugated Board Pallets: These are economical, easily recyclable, and don't need fumigation.
- Display cum dispenser packs made on Pallet
- Alternate to angle boards are available through corrugated board.
- Alternate to thermocole are available through cushion pads made of corrugated boards.
R&D
- Providing eco-friendly Cushion Pads replacing thermocole in computers.
- Providing solutions for breakage of wooden hanger in Pier 1 imports of Coat hangers made of Iron with wooden hanger.
- Research
on effect of high cobb board & sodium silicate as adhesive under
hot and humid conditions on Bursting Strength and Edge Crush Test of
corrugated board for Walmart India.
- R
& D on effect of moisture in Corrugated board on Bursting Strength
& Edge Crush Test of corrugated board. Thus determining maximum
acceptable level of moisture for IKEA vendors
